For Iranian composer Siavash Amini, a chance reading of Maurice Blanchot, sleep-deprivation and prolonged intoxication, and finally a nervous breakdown resulted in a revelatory crepuscular work of art. Put simply, Servus is a meditation on ‘night’. Put less simply, it is a brooding entry in the historical corpus of cultural expression. Fearful as the mysteries of darkness may be, there is yet misunderstood power in its malleability.
